Faceware Mask

Ao Air’s Atmos faceware is trying to get a solution to increasing levels of air pollution worldwide. The price of a gadget is $350 which is quite expensive for people who are seeking the help of this problem.

Breathing in a polluted environment is very alarming. It can cause breathing problems and can damage the track of respiration. The severe condition can lead to lung cancer, asthma, and the risk of heart stroke. The people of Australia and survivors of bushfires are suffering from a dangerous level of smoke. Sometimes, the area where the smoke persists, some harmful particles also present.

Atmos Faceware wants to provide a solution to the contaminated area. The company introduces an air filter mask that provides better protection against harmful substances. It is certified by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). This study is not published yet nor reviewed. Ao Air considers it a new solution for the protection of pollution, different from ordinary face masks and respirators. According to the company, the Atmos Faceware doesn’t need an airtight seal to be effective. The company says facial hair, sweating and other factors that can disturb seal don’t hinder Atmos faceware function.

Benefits of Atmos Facemask

Wearing a mask of Atmos is going to be the best design choice as well as healthier. Ao Air wrote in the press that, “Our transparency design stay at the bridge of the nose, allowing others to see your face even your smile”.

It’s a bit expensive choice. According to the spokesperson, the cost of the mask along with four filters is $350. During CES only a few masks are available for presale. For difference, an N95 mask which is the most common NIOSH-certified mask price is about $15.

Air pollution level is increasing at an alarming rate

The air filter’s popularity is increasing day by day due to the rise in earth temperature. Fire seasons are getting longer and more intense due to climate change. The wildfire increasing pollution to the next level. Not only fire is responsible for climate change. But the increasing air pollution due to longer summer season making ozone layer depletion which is causing many diseases.

Against that grim environment, turning protection against the global climate change impact into a luxurious accessory and status symbol is a natural target for personal technology. Even before author Naomi Klein in 2007, think up the term “disaster capitalism” companies have been moving in to capitalize on people’s concern over natural disasters and bad environmental conditions.

It’s becoming a fashion icon

Air filtering masks have been fashion icons in China and India in the last couple of years, and companies are raising a lot of profit in the American market. Rose Eveleth wrote at Vox that,

It might be that masks go the same way as luxury sunglasses, some masks will be cheap and not work to protect you, while others will be bit expensive, luxurious objects that you retain for years”.

Richer people already breathe in cleaner air. Air pollution tends to be concentrated in low-income areas, and bear less of a load of environmental problems, natural disasters, and climate change. Even if high-tech face masks give better protection against the health effects of air pollution, they’ll only add to climate-related variations if they’re only accessible to people who can afford the price.
